FTP Install/Update Troubleshooting Instructions

Article Details

FTP Update Troubleshooting:

This document details a stepwise method of trouble shooting problems with applying downloaded installs/updates to ESDI products.
  1. Make sure that the update was applied from a clean folder. Save the downloaded exe into a folder that has no other files in it.

  2. Apply the update with the QSECOFR user and password. Be aware that some companies do not allow remote connections with the QSECOFR profile. If this is the case then have the user sign on with a profile that has as much authority as possible.

  3. When you click the apply button, if errors occur check to see if FTP is active on the AS400. You can do this two ways:
    • Try to connect with FTP from a DOS prompt. If you are on windows 2000 or XP box your current directory may have to be C:\windows\system32.
      • Type: ftp as400IPaddress at the DOS prompt, if this connects then FTP is up and running.
    • On the AS400 do a NETSTAT and then take option 3 (Work with TCP/IP connection status) and check to see if FTP is in the Listen state. The Listen state signifies that FTP is up and running.

  4. If you are able to sign on from a DOS prompt then the update process should then try and create a save file with the same name as the update being applied, and then FTP the update data to that save file. If an error occurs immediately after creating the save file, check the defaults for FTP. Type CFGTCP then take menu options 20, and 10. The Change FTP attributes screen should have the parameters:

    • Initial name format . . . . . . *LIB (*LIB, *SAME, *PATH)
    • Initial directory . . . . . . . *CURLIB (*CURLIB, *SAME, *HOMEDIR)

  5. If *PATH is specified for the initial name format or *HOMDIR is specified for the initial directory, run the update again, but click on the advanced button and select the radio button “Set the name format to *LIB”
  6. If the update still does not apply get the update joblob. The update joblog should be found in the output queue QTCP.
