Article Description

Information about the Presto page template files xl_PageTemplate.html, xl_admin_header.html, xl_admin_footer and xl_footer.html.

Article Details

Earlier versions of Presto had a more rudimentary template structure where it was sometimes necessary to manually edit the high-level template files to customize certain site elements. In more recent versions (2.0 and higher), these changes should no longer be necessary, and other techniques are available.

The information below was included in earlier versions of the User Guide, but has now been removed. It is included here for customers still using older versions with custom changes to their templates.

Page Templates
If you are familiar with HTML, you can probably tell that the banner and footer files, combined with the HTML shown in the Designer, aren’t actually enough to make up the entire page displayed in the browser. There are other higher level template files that pull everything together.

You can find these in the /templates/ folder in your IFS, but you shouldn’t edit them. The page templates folder includes these files:

  • xl_admin_header.html and xl_admin_footer.html. These files create the framework for editing your page in the Designer.
  • xl_footer.html - This section closes out your HTML pages.
  • xl_PageTemplate.html - This is the wrapper for your pages, that pulls in all the required files.
You shouldn’t edit any of these files unless you are absolutely sure of what you are doing.
What is in xl_PageTemplate.html
All your Presto pages are loaded within a higher level shell program that loads the file xl_PageTemplate.html first. This file contains the HTML with your page header information, and as a result, controls the JavaScript and CSS files available to all your pages.
This file should not be changed. If you need your skin to pull in custom JavaScript or CSS files, as of version 2.0 you should add these to the skins.html file. If you add references to custom JavaScript or CSS in the xl_PageTemplate.html file, they will be overwritten when you upgrade.
