Why do some BCD products create the user profile EXODUS51 or EXODUS55?

Product: EXODUS Type: Frequently Asked Question

The EXODUS51 subsystem is our communications package which allows the Client and Servers portions of our software to talk to each other. Under this subsystem is EXSERV51, an auto-start job that runs constantly to monitor and dispatch EXODUS51 conversations to the appropriate server programs. This is used by our products WebSmart ILE and PHP, Clover, Presto, Catapult and Spool Explorer.

In order to make this work the subsystem has to run under the EXODUS51 profile. The EXODSU51 user profile (EXODUS in older releases) is used to facilitate running the EXODUS51 subsystem (EXODUS in older releases).  This profile is created during the installation of any of the above products, it has little authority and has no-sign on ability. Having this profile allows us to set the job description (XL_EX51/EXODUS) for our jobs.

As of WebSmart 11.2, Catapult 8.1.0, EXODUS55 replaces EXODUS51.  This means the STRSBS Command will change to STRSBS XL_EX55/EXODUS55.  EXODUS55 is backwards compatible and works with products still relying on EXODUS51.
