How to FTP a file from your PC to the IBM i IFS using a DOS command prompt.

To FTP from your PC to the IFS (Integrated File System) on the IBM i using DOS try this:

Click on your PCs Windows search icon and look for CMD and start a Command Window.  From there you can do the following:

  • Type cd directory_name (where your file is) and Enter 
  • Type ftp and Enter
  • Type your IBM i user-name and Enter
  • Type your IBM i password and Enter 
  • Type quote site namefmt 1 and Enter
  • Type binary and Enter
  • Type cd /IFS/Path and Enter
  • Type put your_file and Enter to upload a file
  • Type get your_file and Enter to download a file.
