Is it possible to use Newlook Server to download a file from the IFS on the IBMi?

Product: Newlook Type: Frequently Asked Question

Is it possible to use Newlook Server to download a file from the IFS on the IBMi?

As Newlook Server generates HTML for the Client browser it is limited in what actions it can perform on the machine or device that the rendered web page is viewed from. The recommended approach is to make the files accessible via a Web URL by hosting them on the IBMi's own web server and then providing a URL link to the file.

For example, the following HTTP:// link will allow access to the file hosted on the IBMi web server :

<a href="http://yourIBMi/IfsFolder/file.txt">Link Anchor</a>

If the IFS folder is mapped to a drive letter the following example could also be used assuming the drive letter is "X:" and users viewing the site are internal users that have that drive letter mapped :

<a href="file://X:/IfsFolder/file.txt">Link Anchor</a>

The file:// approach is not generally recommend as there is additional work required in configuring the IFS including authority to shared folders.
