Receive error: " This field cannot be deleted because it is referenced by files " when deleting a field, even though it is not used anywhere

Product: DbGen Type: Frequently Asked Question

You may receive the message: "Error: This field cannot be deleted because it referenced by files" even though with option 5=Where used, no files are listed.

This can happen when record formats are orphaned. Take an option 4 - Work with Record Format Descriptions. Find the record format for the file that the field(s) belonged to - hit F8 to only show orphaned record formats. Take an option 7 to confirm that the field(s) are from that file. Then take an option 4 to delete the record format.

You should now be able to delete the field from the dictionary list.
