Why are we moving from geturl() and posturl() functions to IBM's SYSTOOLS HTTP functionality?

Product: WebSmart ILE Type: Frequently Asked Question

With updates done to security over the years, some websites with TLS 1.3 will not be accepting incoming GET and POST requests using WebSmart ILE's geturl() and posturl() functions.

The development of these functions has been halted, and instead we will be moving to a new method of doing GET and POST requests using SYSTOOLS HTTP functionality. This method of web service calls is provided by IBM and work with any release including and above V7R1.

Below are the reasons why we are moving towards the use of the SYSTOOLS HTTP method:

  • This functionality is provided by IBM and provide official, supported functionality with SQL.
  • Future changes and fixes to this functionality will be delivered automatically through IBM i system updates.
  • Changes done to the geturl() and posturl() functions would require some time to update; on the other hand, the SYSTOOLS HTTP functions are available now!

Here is a link to a KB article that provides an example of how to use the SYSTOOLS HTTP functionality as an alternative to geturl() and posturl(): https://www.myfreschesolutions.com/kb?kbnum=16990
